THINGS TO SEE
The Cathedral: If you only get to see one sight in Seville it has to be the cathedral. This is the biggest church in the world and construction began in 1402 and continued into the 16th century. Everything is awesome from the gold adornments, the longest nave in Spain and the incredible wood carvings. Do not attempt to enter if you only half an hour to spend. There is large collection of sculptures, paintings and jewelery and the tomb of Christopher Columbus.
WHERE TO STAY
Monte Carlo Hotel: This two star hotel with 51 roo
ms is two old Seville houses joined together. It’s neat, clean and well priced and wonderfully located for seeing the historic sights of Seville. You are a five minute walk from the town hall, the cathedral and the Giralda Tower and only steps away from shopping. Lots of bars and restaurants are nearby. The fixtures, furniture and central courtyard all give a feeling of Seville and Spain of yesteryear. This is the perfect place for the tourist happy to enjoy the noise and bustle of historic Seville.
NH Plaza de Armas Hotel: This is a large, clean comfortable hotel with all mod cons, not ideally suited for the historic center of Seville but it is within walking distance. The 262 rooms are well-priced and the public areas are spacious, cool and airy, a big plus factor in a city that gets very hot and sticky in the summer. A big buffet breakfast, the swimming pool and solarium are other plus points.
Hotel Virgen de los Reyes: A little away from the historic center of Seville, the hotel provides satisfactory accommodation at a good price. The 80 rooms inside this modern building are comfortable but dated. The hotel is in the new commercial area of Seville, called Nervión, with easy access by car to both the Santa Justa AVE (hight-speed train) station and San Pablo International Airport. The cathedral is a 30 minute walk away but there are frequ
ent buses to that area. The hotel prides itself in serving an excellent version of the typical Andalusian breakfast of churros – an elongated fried donut – with hot chocolate. The rooms are larger than you expect for the price you pay. If you enjoy people-watching, the hotel lounge or patio of patio are good locations. Inexpensive bus fares make visiting the historic monuments easy and there are lots of shops, bars and restaurants close at hand. All rooms have satellite TV, air conditioning and heating, direct dial telephone and a safe. There is a hairdryer in the fully-equipped bathroom. The rooms can take extra beds to accommodate up to four people.
Vertice Hotel: Spacious rooms, a heated swimming pool and a bus stop right outside the entrance are three plus points for this modern hotel
designed for both the business and leisure traveler. The impressive high-rise hotel is in the commercial area of Seville, beside the Palacio de Congresos and close to the Santa Justa AVE (high-speed train) station. The hotel has a total of 161 rooms (107 are junior suites, 16 double superior rooms and 38 double rooms). All are air conditioned, well furnished, modern and come with free Internet access, IDD telephone, minibar, cable TV, in-room safe and large bathroom with a hair dryer. Five of the junior suites are specially designed for the handicapped. There is an outdoor heating pool, gym and sauna.
